Remember those mundane afternoons in school when we’d have to sit against our will to learn? Doesn’t it feel almost ridiculous that someone would pay to study a new language even after school?

Guess what, we’re here to let you in on a secret. These people have mastered the art of adding fun to learning!

You can’t learn a new language just by studying it. Undoubtedly, there are no magic wands or easy shortcuts to mastering a language, the only way is the one that has been told to us since childhood: dedication and consistency. While it may sound easy to tell someone to stay devoted, those who do it, know it isn’t that easy. So how does one master anything at all? There’s just one answer- have fun!

  1. Manipulate your brain

Sit for an hour reading that dreadful history lesson, or scroll through dozens of amusing dogs’ videos for an hour. What is easier?

Our brain is wired to take things lightly and just have fun! So, what happens if we’re able to manipulate our brain into thinking of fun activities whilst learning? This way we could be rewarding ourselves with various replenishments. This may include positive feedback, short intervals in learning, or even finally eating that scrumptious chocolate brownie after completing the targeted amount of learning!

These rewards could be your ‘light at the end of the tunnel,’ that you look forward to.

2. Undivided Attention: Add Blinkers to your Mind!

Think about a galloping horse with blinkers around its eyes, that is exactly the amount of unwavering attention one needs to learn a new language.

Whenever you get a notification on your phone, for a like on Instagram or a follow on LinkedIn, or even a comment on Facebook, your mind’s Nucleus Accumbens fills up with dopamine. Imagine if you could erase this feeling altogether! Now, even though it is impossible to obliterate a feeling, the stimuli causing the feeling can be. Turn your phone off, lock your pet out of your study room, and tell your roommates or friends not to distract you for an hour!

3. Realistic Goals

You could achieve efficient learning by setting achievable, short-term goals. Imagine the amount of satisfaction and pleasure you’d get after completing that targeted amount of work. The science behind goal setting is that it stimulates your mind into thinking that achieving your goal is a crucial part of who you are.

Make language learning into stepping stones! Traverse one stone at a time before deciding your next step. In language learning, slow and steady do win the race!

4. Nothing beats games

Remember how as children, your parents would reprimand you for playing games rather than studying? How incredible would it be if we could merge both things? Our trainers do exactly the same in our online classes. We, at TLN, believe in practically teaching the language by organizing interesting quizzes, movie nights, podcast evenings, and weekly games too! This doesn’t just beat the mundane lectures, but also adds competitiveness that drives you to perform!

5. Chat with friends

Recollect how you used to discuss every scientific fact or mathematic problem with your friends on your way home from school. Learning a language doesn’t need to be any different.

When you speak with your friends, you not only revise the topics you have learned earlier but also, it’s fun! Imagine pretending to go to a French cafe and ordering a croissant with your friends. Maybe, imagine roaming in the serene ranges of Germany with a group of German-speaking locals. Wouldn’t it be so memorable to practice languages differently with your buddies!?

As they say, all work and almost no play lead to burnout. Burying your nose in books doesn’t always put you on the road to mastery but makes language learning a mere chore. Explore the culture behind the language, and dwell in it beyond rules and vocabulary, that is when learning a language becomes truly delightful!
